of April A. D. 1845
[signed] John W. Webber Judge of Probate

"31 May 1845[sic] (1842?). H. B. Morton made administer of the estate." The date is likely 1845 as Abner Hackleman and David L. Portlock resigned 12 April 1845. This is probably Hanson B. Marlow.

On 8 December 1854, a Guardian's Bond covering David L. Portlock (for $500.00) was signed and witnessed at Burlington, Iowa by David L. Portlock Jr., Willis Portlock and John Otten for the guardianship of Marietta and Elzora Portlock, minor heirs of B. D. Portlock.

"1 January 1855. David L. Portlock, guardian for Marietta ad Elzora Portlock, asks permission to sell for them the unimproved NE1/4 of Sec. 2, T71N, R4w, estimated value not over $300. To each heir will go an individed eighth part. The preceding was read and signed by Willis Portlock on 18 Dec. 1856 in Des Moines County, Ia."
Notes for Sarah "Sally" (Spouse 1)
Gravestone reads:

"SARAH
wife of
Barnet D. Portlock
DIED
Nov. 11, 1852
Aged 44 years
2 Mos. & 22 ds"

On 19 February 1856, Willis Portlock paid $18.00 for one set of grave markers for Sarah Portlock, deceased.

Listed as a child of Henry Lines and Margaret (Peggy) Hackleman by Elijah Hackleman.
"Sarah (Sally) Lines born about 1804, married July 16th 1823 (Rush) Ind., Barnet D. Portlock, after living a few years in Rush county, moved to DesMoine [sic] County, Iowa, fifteen miles West of Burlingtom, where she died many years ago, and was buried at Pleasant Grove. She raised a large family, but I cannot give the names of her children."
Research
Beverly Portlock found Sarah on the 1850 census, however I have not been able to find this entry. I have checked the entire 1850 Henry County, Iowa census: New London 1 and 2, Baltimore, Center, Jackson, Madison, Tippencanoe, Wayne, Jefferson, Salem and Trenton Townships. I have checked both the AIS index and Ancestry's own index at Ancestry.com for the entire state of Iowa. I also manually checked Burlington Township, Burlington Ward 1, 2, and 3, Franklin, Yellow Springs, Pleasant Grove, and Union Townships in Des Moines County. This search was completed 26 November 2001.
