Obituary:
"Alvin Portlock, son of Mr. and Mrs. David[sic] Portlock, was born February 24, 1863, and passed away at his home near New Market, Ia., February 22, 1931, age 67 years, 11 months and 28 days.
August 20, 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Sadie Atkinson of Villisca, Ia. To this union were born six children, four girls and two boys; Mrs. Leola Damuth, Calinda; Mrs. Blanch Pershing, New Market; Mrs. Glenna Purdon, Westphalia, Mo.; Mrs. Ruby Hardie, Helena, Mont.; Alvin, the other son died in infancy.
Mr. Portlock was one of a family of thirteen children. Four yet remain: Mrs. Nin Wilson, San Francico, Calif.; Mrs. Laura Moore, Somerfield, Kans.; Mrs. Setta Taylor, Villisca; Mrs. Eva Ashman, Lincoln, Nebr.
In 1879 Mr. Portlock professed faith in Christ as his savior, and united with the Christian church. Almost his entire life has been spent in Taylor county. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, four children, nine grandchildren, four sisters and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the New Market Methodist church by th[sic] pastor, Rev. L. M. Kirby, and th[sic] body laid to rest in Memory cemetery." |
